April 27th – Charles River Watershed Canoe Race – Waltham – 10am (Parrot Points Awarded) The Charles River Watershed Association seeks to provide and enhance the health, beauty, and enjoyment of the Charles River and its tributaries.  The Association holds this annual canoe race to raise finds and community awareness.  We will be judges and safety people again this year at the Moody Street Dam in Waltham.  Tailgate party at the finish line at Hereter Park in Boston.  Bring your own food and beverages to the finish line.  To volunteer or for more information, contact Kathy Werner at (781) 843-2773 or socialfins@yahoo.com.

 

DIRECTIONS:

Rte 128 to Exit 26 “Rte 20 East” follow Rte 20 about 2 miles. In the center of Waltham, turn right onto Moody Street. Please park in the municipal parking lots just before the railroad tracks. We are at the bridge on the right side of the street.

DIRECTIONS:

Barnstable High School 744 West Main Street Hyannis.  Go over the Sagamore Bridge onto Rt. 6.  Take exit 6.  Turn right at the end of the ramp onto Rt. 132. Turn right onto Phinney’s Lane at the first set of lights.  Turn right onto Rte 28, Falmouth Rd.  Go about 100 ft and bear left onto West Main St.  Go straight through the first set of lights and the high school is a couple hundred feet down on the left.

 

May 3rd – “Improper” Parrot Head Night – Improper Bostonian - Dennisport – 7 - ?  Make it a weekend on the Cape!  After flipping burgers, let’s party.  The Improper Bostonian is Will Yates’ brother’s bar.  They will be having a big radio party with giveaways and swag, including a big prize like a trip or flat screen TV (that’s up to the radio station).  Will is looking into hotels less than ½ mile away.  Off season rates on the cape are very affordable.  Stay tuned for more details about that.  For more information, please contact Kathy Werner at (781) 843-2773 or socialfins@yahoo.com.

May 8th – Parrot Head Night at Dick’s Last Resort - Boston – 7 - ?  (Parrot Points Awarded)

Dick’s Last Resort, now located in Faneuil Hall, has declared 5/8 Buffett night at all their locations. May 10th – Special Olympics Games – Brockton – 9:30 am (Parrot Points Awarded)

Brockton High School, 470 Forest Ave. Brockton Rte 24, exit 17A (Rte 123 East) Follow about 1 mile. Turn right at Friendly’s Restaurant onto Angus Beaton Dr. and follow the road around to the stadium.

 

May 10th - 2nd Annual "Buff Madison Memorial Dance” – 7:00 – 11:00 PM

Saturday May 10th.  Gloucester Fraternity Club, Webster St.  Gloucester, MA.

June 14th – Special Olympics Summer Games Dance, Boston University, Boston (Parrot Points Awarded) This is a new site for the dance.  We provide the Saturday night entertainment for the thousands of athletes at the MA State Games.  We’ll need volunteers to set up for the dance, chaperone, and then help with cleanup. DIRECTIONS:

FROM NORTH OF BOSTON: Take I-93 or Route 1 South to Boston.  Exit onto Storrow Drive (Exit 26), stay left through the tunnel and continue to the Kenmore Square exit.  Follow “Local Directions” below.

FROM SOUTHEAST OF BOSTON: Take I-93 North to Boston.  Exit onto Storrow Drive (Exit 26), stay left through the tunnel and continue to the Kenmore Square exit.  Follow “Local Directions” below.

FROM SOUTH OR WEST OF BOSTON: Take the Massachusetts Turnpike

(I-90) East to Exit 18 (Allston/Cambridge).  Follow the signs to Cambridge.  At the first set of lights, turn right onto Soldiers Field Road (Storrow Drive).  Take Storrow Drive to the Kenmore Square exit.  Follow “Local Directions” below.

Local Directions From Kenmore Square Exit Off Storrow Drive:

Take a right at the first set of lights.  The road immediately forks.  The right fork is Bay State Road, the left fork will take you into Kenmore Square.  Take the left fork, and once you’re in the Square, go through first set of lights.  At next set of lights, bear right onto Commonwealth Avenue. Continue straight on Commonwealth Avenue—until you reach the high 800’s.  The 10 Buick Street residential facility is located behind the new BU Fitness & Recreation Center. You’ll see it on your right.  To get to the building, turn right onto Buick Street.  Nickerson Field is located on the right-hand side at the fourth traffic light on Babcock Street.

MBTA (subway)

Boston University is located on the Green Line.  Take the Green Line “B” train to the “St. Paul Street” stop. You’ll be in front of the BU Fitness & Recreation Center.

July 12th – Special Olympics Softball Games – Framingham – 9:30am Rain Date July 13th (Parrot Points Awarded)  We are doing our Famous Cheezeburger & Hot dog luncheon with all the fixing’s, members, fun & frolic.  We will be holding the competition at both Walsh Middle School and at Framingham High School, however the BBQ will take place ONLY at Walsh Middle School.  At the conclusion of competition, athletes and coaches who played at the High School are invited to Walsh Middle School for awards and the BBQ.  We anticipate this to be around 3:00 p.m.  We are looking for a commitment from people to help with this event.  Please let us know if you can help out.  To volunteer or for more information, contact Stephanie Tocchi at 508-473-0915 or stocchi@comcast.net .

From the North: I-95 South to I-90, Mass Pike West.  Take Mass Pike Exit 13, Route 30 toward Natick/Framingham.  Turn Right to proceed on Route 30 (Cochituate Road) toward Framingham.  Keep Right to stay on Route 30 (Worcester Road).  Turn Right to stay on Route 30 (Edgell Road).  Stay Straight on Edgell Road until Right hand turn onto Brook Street.  Walsh Middle School is at 301 Brook Street.

 

From the South & West:  I-495 North toward Worcester.  Take Exit 22, Mass Pike East.  Take Exit 12 off Mass Pike for Route 9 toward Framingham.  Turn Right onto ramp toward Edgell Road/Main Street.  Keep right onto High Street.  Turn Left onto Main Street/Route 30 North.  Stay straight to proceed onto Edgell Road.  Turn Right onto Brook Street.  Walsh Middle School is at 301 Brook Street.

July 25th–27th  – Camping Trip – Ellis Haven – Plymouth  (Parrot Points Awarded)

Bring the entire family – even the dog!!  This is a great time for all.  Make your reservations by calling (508) 746-0803.  Tell them you are a Parrot Head to get booked in sites T84-T94.  Go to www.ellishaven.com for more information and directions.  Sites are nice and large and dry (yeah). The Annual Progressive Campsite Crawl will be on Friday night at 8pm.  Stroll from Tiki-Bar to Tiki-Bar/Campsite to Campsite.  Each campsite involved in the crawl will offer their favorite snack or drink for the crawlers.  The PHCOEM Potluck dinner is Saturday at 3pm.  Sites are $32/night with water only or $42/night for water and electricity for up to two adults, two children, and two tents.  Additional adults are $5/ea, children under 5 are free.  If you would like advice about selecting your campsite or for more information contact Rick Werner at (781) 843-2773 or socialfins@yahoo.com.

 

August 2nd – Pan Mass Challenge Water Station – Wrentham (Parrot Points Awarded)

We will be water Parrot Heads for the cyclists that ride from Sturbridge to Provincetown to raise money for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund. . .  Calling all Parrothead Cheerleaders to help cheer on the bike riders of the Pan Mass Challenge.  These cyclists will be riding 192 miles over 2 days to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.  Our job will be to cheer for the riders as they arrive at the Wrentham water stop.  Dress in your phinest parrothead attire and COME ON DOWN!!  Mike Donnelly will be setting up the Parrothead Cafe -- from which we serve snacks and drinks to the riders -- and I will be helping to organize the decorating and refreshment set-up.  Bring your (non-alcohol referenced) parrothead decorations, your grass skirt, and your loudest cheering voice to support some of the greatest cancer fighters (and cancer survivors) you will ever meet.  Set up begins at 6:30am (sorry), and the first riders will arrive around 8:30am.  We will be finished with clean up around 11:30am.  Come any time and support this very worthy cause.  The water-stop is located at a school called the Wrentham Development Center, Emerald St, Wrentham.  For more info, or questions, please contact Diane Xenelis at 978-204-7571 or keywest4me2@yahoo.com .
